Design Tips

Wood Flooring Tips

1. Hardwood is outstanding for warmth and elegance in the home and there is a wide variety of styles available; each as unique as the individual selecting it.

2. Currently, hand-scraped hardwood is extremely popular while the rustic looks of Oak, Cherry, Pine, Birch, Walnut, and Maple Hickory remain traditional favorites.

3. Exotic species of wood from South America, Germany, Australia, and the far-east have also enjoyed a surge in popularity. Finishes and colors are wide and varied ranging from light beech to dark Brazilian cherry and everything in between.

4. Looking for something different? Be sure to consider bamboo or cork flooring. These new favorites have become more and more popular in recent years.

5. Light and durable, bamboo flooring offers many colors and textures. When properly harvested for use as flooring, bamboo is harder than red oak. Cork is also a durable and environmentally friendly option. Made from the bark of cork oak tree, it is resistant to moisture and insulates against both temperature and noise. Cork is also a great way to reduce allergens in the home.

6. Whatever your choice, wood flooring is a great way to bring a natural and sophisticated look into your home, but be careful not to mix too many different styles to ensure a cohesive look throughout.
